Ask

This surface is extractive. It returns records, ranked, with the passages that bear on your question and the citations behind them. It writes nothing of its own.

How this answers

Two rankings are computed and fused. One finds records that mean what your question means; the other finds records that say what your question says. Either alone has a known blind spot — an embedding misses an exact proper noun, a keyword misses a paraphrase — so the archive runs both and fuses them by rank.

Each result names how it was found: by meaning, by words, or by both. Each carries the source it came from, the licence it arrived under, and the date it was retrieved.

Machine callers: /ask.json?q=… returns the same ranking with the same citations.
